Inspired: Graduate student takes the next step in pursuing her opera dreams Kiara Walker left a job at Juilliard to earn a master’s in vocal performance Kiara Walker Image Credit: Jonathan Cohen.   Kiara Walker remembers the first time she heard opera. During her undergraduate years at Georgia’s Valdosta State University, she had leaned toward a theater major. That is, until she heard one of her best friends — a music major — sing an aria. The glory of the sound sparked a new passion for classical music.   “It was the first time I had ever heard anything like that, and I was entranced,” said Walker, who will earn her master’s in vocal performance from Binghamton University’s music program this May. “I said, ‘I need to do that.’”   The Cortland native — a soprano — graduated with a bachelor’s in music, but her life took a different turn after graduation. She moved to New York City, where she spent five years working in higher education, first at New York University a...

Who is Adrian Newey and why is his departure from Red Bull big news in Formula 1?

Who is Adrian Newey and why is his departure from Red Bull big news in Formula 1? The biggest news in Formula 1 this week has nothing to do with a driver, an owner, or a team principal — the F1 world is talking about Adrian Newey.   Red Bull's long-time chief technical officer will leave the team at the end of the season, and with it, change the complex of the F1 landscape.    In a year where Lewis Hamilton announced his move to Ferrari, Carlos Sainz is fielding offers, and Audi made their first move before entering F1, Newey's availability has become the most prized commodity of them all . Newey does not drive cars, he designs them — and nobody has ever done it better. F1 cars designed by him have resulted in 12 constructors' world championships, and 13 drivers championships.   He designed the great Williams and McLaren cars during the 1990s and has been Red Bull's chief technical engineer since 2006. Newey-designed F1 cars have won more than 200 grands...

The competition helps to raise the visibility of small but captivating Italian towns that might otherwise go unnoticed. The winner of this year's competition, however, is much more than just a pretty place.   "The p...

Reggie Bush gets Heisman      Trophy back 14 years after        forfeiting ..............................     Reggie Bush has his 2005     Heisman Trophy back, as the Heisman Trust announced Wednesday the formal "reinstatement" of the trophy to Bush amid what it calls "enormous changes in the college football landscape."   The Heisman Trust's decision comes after Bush forfeited his Heisman Trophy in 2010 in the wake of significant NCAA sanctions for USC, which included Bush receiving improper benefits during a Trojans career that spanned from 2003 to 2005.   As part of the decision Wednesday, the Heisman Trust is returning the Heisman Trophy to Bush and a replica to USC. Bush will again be invited to all future Heisman Trophy ceremonies, beginning in the 2024 season.   "Personally, I'm thrilled to reunite with my fellow Heisman winners and be a part of the storied legacy of the Heism...

Students explore opportunities in Washington through WilDCats at the Capitol       LEXINGTON , Ky. (April 24, 2024) —  Since its inception in 2016, the WilDCats at the Capitol internship program at the University of Kentucky has been paving the way for students to embark on transformative experiences in Washington, D.C.   Developed through a partnership between the Office of Federal Relations, the Department of Political Science in the College of Arts and Sciences and the Student Government Association, the program has become a cornerstone of experiential learning for UK students.   Gavin Cooper is currently a junior at UK studying community and leadership development. Why is Premier League trending?

Arsenal vs Chelsea 5-0: Premier League football – as it happened......   Goodbye for now That’s it from our live coverage of a record-breaking game between Arsenal and Chelsea.   The Gunners fire five past the Blues for their biggest victory against their London rivals.   Leandro Trossard’s fourth-minute drive gave the home side a deserved half-time lead. The two second-half braces from Ben White and Kai Havertz, however, helped hammer Mauricio Pochettino’s beleaguered side.   We’ll be back on Wednesday with Everton against Liverpool in the Merseyside derby where the Reds will have to respond to Arsenal’s three-point lead at the top of the Premier League.   For now, though – from me, Kevin Hand – it’s goodbye Arsenal on the verge of equalling a Premier League record Arsenal have won six matches by five or more goals this season.   They are one more result away from equalling the Premier League record for the number of wins by those margins. Shea...
